A beloved landmark in Copley Square, Trinity Church, built from 1872 to 1877, has been called "One of the Ten Buildings That Changed America" by Geoffrey Baer of PBS. Designed by Henry Hobson Richardson, an American architect who had trained in Paris at the Écoles des Beaux-Arts, Richardson infused the Romanesque tradition with fresh ideas to create something new and distinctly American: Richardsonian Romanesque architecture.
